Actor Pierce Brosnan recently did a career retrospective video piece for GQ, and in the process touched upon one of the most talked about films of his post-Bond career — the musical “Mamma Mia!”.

The film adaptation of the hit ABBA-themed musical boasts plenty of stars, though amusingly casts Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard and Colin Firth in the three dad roles — actors not exactly known for their singing abilities.

Speaking with the outlet, Brosnan admits he was terrified going into the process:

“It was terrifying having to do these songs, and you know, ‘SOS’ is such a warhorse of a song. I think what gave me the greatest comfort on the day of recording the songs up at Air Studios was to see Stellan [Skarsgård] and Colin [Firth] looking like rabbits caught in the headlights. They were terrified. We were all terrified having to sing. We go into the studio, it’s 10 o’clock in the morning and there’s Benny and Bjorn sitting at the piano. ‘Alright boys let’s go’ straight into the songs.”

He and the others ended up doing weeks of rehearsals alongside the cast, including Meryl Streep, which ultimately boosted everyone’s confidence by the time they got around to filming it.

“Mamma Mia!” went on to great success, spawning a sequel, even as Brosnan’s singing voice in the film has become a legend in its own right, albeit not the way it was probably intended.
